今日で東北地方太平洋沖地震の発生から丁度一ヶ月が過ぎました。まだまだ日本の状況は非常に厳しい物がありますが、タイのニュースはこの震災をどのように取り扱ったのでしょうか？また、一般のタイ人の反響は？欧米では原発問題が明らかになってから、津波関連のニュースが激減したと聞きますが、タイも同様でしょうか？

1 month has passed since the outbreak of earthquake & tsunami in the northeast of Japan. The situation is still fairly bad here, but how has Thai news been treating this disaster? And the general reaction of Thai people? Some say, in the West, media’s attention has dramatically shifted to Fukushima reactors, with very little broadcasting done on tsunami related issues. Has it been the same in Thailand?

タイで外国人が携帯電話を持とうとするとすると、最低幾らぐらい必要ですか？電話とEメールが主な使用目的になると思います。そもそも、タイの携帯でEメールの利用は可能でしょうか？それともSMSだけですか？また、外国人であるということで携帯の契約が困難になったりするものでしょうか？プリペイド式が便利かと想像しますが実際にはどうでしょうか？

If I want to have a mobile phone in Thailand, how much would it cost at minimum? I think I want to use it for calling and emailing primarily. Do Thai mobile phones have email functionarities? Or just SMS? Is having a mobile phone difficult for foreigners? Perhaps a prepaid phone is an easy option?

赤シャツや黄シャツの着用は避けたほうが良い？

バンコクやタイ各地を歩きまわる際に、赤シャツや黄シャツを着るのは避けた方がよいですか？日本人はタイ人と同じアジア系なんで、現地人の活動家と間違われて襲われたりしないか心配です。シャツは白などにした方が無難ですか？

Is it better not to wear red or yellow shirts when I walk in Bangkok and elsewhere in Thailand? Japanese look alike Thais, so I don’t want locals to attack me thinking I’m one of activists. Is white shirt a good choice?

Are Thai hospitals reliable? Do they use same needles more than once? I don’t want to be infected to HIV.

バンコクでまだ赤シャツ隊のデモが続いているようですが、最近アラブ世界（チュニジアやエジプト）で起きた民衆蜂起の影響はタイにあるのでしょうか？デモ隊が勢いづいているとか？

Are Arab uprising these days influencing demonstrations in BKK and elsewhere? Are they getting invigorated?

赤シャツや黄シャツといったように、タイでは庶民や活動家がそれぞれの政治信条に合わせて赤や黄色のシャツを着て行動するようですが、この赤や黄色には各人の政治的立場を識別すること以外に何か特別な意味があるのでしょうか？

Why are red shirts red and yellow shirts yellow? Do colors carry any meaning other than identity of political affiliation?

タイの映画館では上映前に国歌が流され、客は起立して王様に敬意を払うと聞きました。タイ人が王様に敬意を示すのは良いのですが、私はタイ人ではありません。タイ国王は私の王ではありません。だから、私はその間席に座っていても大丈夫ですか？立たないと逮捕されるのでしょうか？

I hear in Thai cinemas the national anthem gets played and customers need to stand up to show respects to the King. But I’m not Thai. He is not my king. Is it ok if I just stay put on the seat? Or, would I get arrested if I don’t stand up?

バンコクでの爆弾テロの可能性について

何年か前にバンコクで爆弾テロがあったと記憶しているのですが、今でも危ないと思いますか？確か、カオサン通りのバーでも爆発がありましたよね。やっぱり、カオサン辺りは他の場所より危険なのでしょうか？カオサンに泊まろうと考えているのですが少し不安です。タイに詳しい方、教えてください。

I remember there were some bombs that went off in BKK a few years ago. Is BKK still dangerous? If I remember correctly, a bar in Khaosan was hit by a bomb. Is Khaosan more dangerous than other places? I\’m thinking about staying at around Khaosan but I\’m worried a bit. Please advise!

タイにおける政治と宗教の関係について質問したいと思います。タイでは、仏教徒やイスラム教徒（南部に多い）が宗教的な連帯感を全面に押し出して結成した政党などありますでしょうか？赤シャツ隊や黄シャツ隊のデモに関する報道では、何度か袈裟を着たお坊さんがデモに参加しているのを見た記憶がありますが、このような直接行動に訴えるお坊さんって、ビルマのように沢山いるのですか？また、お坊さんの支持が多いのは赤シャツと黄シャツのどちらでしょうか？

I want to ask about the relationship between politics and religion in Thailand. First, in the kingdom, are there any political parties that are formed based on the shared belief in Buddhism and/or Islam? Somethin like Thailand Buddhist Party… Secondly, during the red-shirt and yellow-shirt demonstrations, I remember seeing on TV some monks have taken part. Are there many monks who participate in those direct political movement? Also, which side has more support from monks, yellow or red?

現地事情に詳しくない人は、どうやって2種類のマッサージ店を見分ければ良いのでしょうか？店の外見だけで判断できますか？

I heard in Thailand, there’re two types of massage parlours. One is genuine massage service provider and the other provides sexual services under the disguise.

How can new comers to Thailand tell which one is which? Can you tell just by looking from outside?

仏暦について

前にタイから郵便物を受け取った時に、押印された日が2,500年代になっていて面食らったことがあります。その後、それが仏暦に基づいた押印であることが分かりましたが、この仏暦、タイではどのぐらい広く使われているのでしょうか？恐らく西暦と並行して使用されているのかと想像するのですが、タイ語での日常会話などの際に、タイ人は仏暦に則って話すのですか？西暦から仏暦への変換あるいは、その逆の計算は皆簡単に出来るのでしょうか？国際ニュースなどを扱う際にも仏暦が使用されているですか？

A few years ago, I got a parcel from Thailand and I remember I got baffled to see the postal stamp dated Year 25xx. Later I figured out it’s actually a Buddhist year. Now, how widely is this Buddhist year used in Thailand, say compared to Western (Christian) year system? Do people use Buddhist year in everyday conversation? How about in international news on TV? Can people easily convert Buddhist year to Western year and vice versa?

バンコクに長くいると都会の喧騒で疲れが貯まるのですが、気分をリフレッシュするのに良いオススメの公園とかってありますか？バンコクってあまり公園がないようなイメージがあるのですが・・・。

Staying in Bangkok for a long time can be sometimes tiresome. Are there any nice parks we can go in Bangkok to relax and spend some time in the green environment?
